Siem Reap Woman Sets Fire To Husband & Kids On Remote Farm

Siem Reap Province: According to the report of the Siem Reap Provincial Police, on May 1, 2021, there was a case of attempted murder after a wife had an argument with her husband and took gasoline and poured it on her sleeping husband and set him on fore. The husband was seriously injured and their two children were also burnt. A small wooden house was engulfed in flames and destroyed.

The incident took place on April 30, 2021 at a plantation in Anlong Thom village, Khnong Phnom commune, Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province.

According to the report, the victim was Kong Chhay, a 48-year-old man (the husband) who was seriously injured and his two children aged 3 and 2 were badly burned.

The perpetrator, 26-year-old Loh San (the wife), lived with the victims in a small hut on the farm about 4 km from Anlong Thom village, Khnong Phnom commune, Svay Leu district, Siem Reap province.

According to the victim’s son, 6-year-old Chhay Kong Vong, his mother used gasoline in an attempt to kill the father.

The victim’s son said that before the incident, at around 9 am on April 30, both parents were arguing. These arguments happened almost every day, as they live in poverty, struggling to make ends meet.

The son further clarified that in the morning his parents quarreled for a while and then calmed down in the afternoon. While his father was asleep, his mother took the gasoline, poured it on his father and set him on fire. His two younger siblings who were sleeping next to the father also suffered burns.

After the incident, the local police arrived at the scene and did not arrest the woman who was the perpetrator, leaving her to take care of her husband and children who were sent to the Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital.

This family has no relatives or neighbors nearby because they live on a remote farm.  Now, the 6-year-old eldest son has been temporarily adopted by the commune chief while his parents and two brothers are in the hospital.

Provincial authorities are waiting to see if the victim recovers and will take the woman in to follow legal procedures. NKD
