Reported COVID Numbers Fall Sharply

Phnom Penh: The MoH issued the daily press release on the afternoon of 1 May 2021, confirming the discovery of 388 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 48 cases that were treated and the patients discharged. This is almost a drop of 50% on Friday’s figures.

Of the new cases, all but 1 were linked to what is still known as the Feb. 20 community outbreak- 1 was an imported case from Thailand. This brings the total from the local outbreak to around 13,237 (sources vary slightly).

Case numbers were: 331 in Phnom Penh, 1 Siem Reap, 1 Svay Rieng, 2 Takeo Province, 2 Kampong Cham Province, 3 Kampong Speu Province, 4 Kandal Province, 8 Prey Veng Province and 35 in Banteay Meanchey Province.

This brings the total number of cases to 13,790, with 5,200 cases treated. There are currently 8,487 active cases and 96 deaths have been reported.

However, Cambodia’s vaccination drive is showing some positive results.

    It will only be the beginning of the end if most people get vaccinated.
    Otherwise, as soon as lockdowns end and people get together, it will be déja vu all over again.

    Not at all, the center of the city is already cured, because rich people want to shop there.
