Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Health issued the daily press release on the morning of 5 March 2021, confirming the discovery of 23 new cases of COVID-19.
The cases were: 15 in Phnom Penh, 5 in Sihanoukville, 2 in Koh Kong & 1 in Kandal- all cases linked to the “February 20 community event”.
Of those there were: 9 Cambodians (9 in PP), 12 Chinese (6 in PP, 5 in SHV, 1 in KK), 1 Singaporean (in KK) and 1 Indonesian (KDL). Note other sources differ and say 10 Cambodians/11 Chinese (below is from ODC). EDIT: Other sources say the case in Kandal was a Chinese national, aged 43 (*sorry, the various sources are making it difficult for this day).
UPDATE: According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, this is the first case of the February 20 community event reaching Koh Kong province with the following patients:
1. A 40-year-old Chinese man residing in Phny Meas commune, Kirisakor district, Koh Kong province.
2. A 46-year-old Singaporean man residing in Phny Meas commune, Kirisakor district, Koh Kong province.
Currently, the above two patients are being treated at the Koh Kong Provincial Referral Hospital.
Five people were also treated and released from hospital: three were travelers from abroad (Chinese, Cambodian, Czech), and two were Chinese nationals linked to the “February 20 Community Event”. .
932 cases have now been recorded. Around 425 now linked to the February outbreak- we will await confirmation. 489 have been treated and 442 are currently hospitalized.
