UPDATE: Chinese Man Dies After Testing For COVID-19

Phnom Penh: Earlier today CHINESE MEDIA reported that a man had died in hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

UPDATE: The  Minister of Health, HE Mam Bunheng, issued an official statement, completely dismissing the relation to COVID-19. The minister said that through a thorough autopsy, it was found that the man died of a serious drug overdose EDIT: Or complications from long term drug abuse. A Chinese man was treated at Kovid 19 Hospital at Kovid 19 Hospital in Prek Pnov at 9 am on March 4, 2021. The Chinese man is 33-year-old Lay Bin Seang.

(Preliminary information): I would like to inform you that a Chinese man was hospitalized at the Prek Pnov Quarantine Center and later died.

The following are the details of the deceased Chinese:

Name: LAI BINXIANG

Gender: Male

Date of Birth: May 19, 1987

Place of Birth: FUJIAN

Nationality: Chinese Address: Siller Hotel (Address: Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh, Cambodia).

This Chinese national arrived in Cambodia (Sihanoukville): October 25, 2019

This Chinese national was tested by the Ministry of Health: February 28, 2021. The result was positive (for COVID-19).

The Chinese man was hospitalized: March 1, 2021.

The Chinese man died: March 4, 2021 at 9:00 am (at the hospital in Prek Pnov).

The Ministry of Health medical team is investigating and will confirm the cause of death soon. In this regard, the Ministry of Health would like to express its sympathy and condolences to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Phnom Penh regarding the case of a Chinese man who died in hospital.

A Chinese patient diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia died while receiving treatment at the Phnom Penh City Isolation Center.

The deceased was 34 years old, from Fujian, China, and was nicknamed “Binbin”. On the morning of the 4th, he was found dead in a hospital bed.

Ms. Tang, an ex-girlfriend of the deceased who is also being treated for Covid-19 at the same isolation center, told a reporter from The Cambodia China Times that the deceased man had been hospitalized for 8 days and died on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Binbin’s ex girlfriend Ms. Tang sent a screenshot of their chat conversation. They were reportedly chatting every day through WeChat while Binbin was being treated for his sickness.

“He told me the other day that he had lost his appetite and he had a fever and was feeling dizzy. He took medicine to reduce his fever before going to bed last night [on Wednesday]. Today I was informed that he had died”, she said.

Another patient in the same isolation center said that he heard that Binbin left around 5 or 6 this morning.

The Ministry of Health is currently investigating the death and has confirmed that a Chinese Covid-19 patient died in the isolation center.

Reporters working for The Cambodia China Times contacted a spokesperson of the Ministry of Health for a comment but did not receive a response.

    Why don’t these ‘competent’ Cambodians say: he died because “his heart stopped beating”.

    Which, of course, is always right…
