Thai Border People Smuggler Sent To Court

Banteay Meanchey: On 16 February 2021, a woman who was involved in smuggling people over the Thai border was sent to Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office. .

The broker was named as Khon Sokhoeut, 36, of Seila Khmer village, O’Bei Choan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. 

The woman was arrested by the 911th Border Guard Battalion patrolling along the border at 4:00 pm on February 14, 2021 at Seila Khmer village, O’Bei Choan commune, O’Chrov district. She was bringing people from Thailand to Cambodia through illegal corridors, avoiding the correct channels and quarantine regulations.

The suspect confessed that she had smuggled people across the border five times since January 2021, sending them to pick cassava and cut sugarcane for a week before returning to Cambodia. They paid her 300 baht ($10) per person.

Brigadier General Dy Socheat, Deputy Commissioner for Gender and Anti-Human Trafficking and Protection of Minors, stated that based on the confession, the suspect was sent to the Provincial Court by the Anti-Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office to take legal action. AREY
