UPDATE: Jailed! Border Inspector Fired Over Illegal Crossing Allegations

 

Battambang: On the night of 15 February 2021, a decree was issued removing and expelling Colonel Kim Ponlok, Inspector of Kamrieng District, Battambang Province, from the National Police. 

The issuance came after it was found that the district inspector had released a broker who brought illegal immigrants from Thailand into Cambodia- evading COVID 19 quarantine along the Cambodian-Thai border.

It should be noted that Colonel Kim Ponlok admitted that he worked for the Border Protection Force in 819. It is alleged that he provided shelter to workers to prepare to cross the border illegally from Cambodia to Thailand, and alowed illegal migrant workers from Thailand into Cambodia to avoid the practice of quarantine. The order comes after an incident on the morning of February 15, 2021, when forces searched a truck carrying fruit and found two workers- a Khmer and another Vietnamese hiding in the cargo. KPT

UPDATE according to RASMEI a detention order was issued by Mr. Khy Chhay, Investigating Judge of Battambang Provincial Court. Other officers are also under investigation.
