School To Remain Closed

Phnom Penh: The Minister of Education Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron insists that the ministry will continues to keep schools across the country closed. According to a letter from Hang Chuon Naron, dated May 12, 2020, The Ministry of Education has closely monitored the development of the COVID-19, and the impact of the virus on education, both in the public and private sectors.

The letter says that schools will reopen by 1 November at the latest, which is when the new school year normally begins for state schools (the dates are set by the ministry and usually begin in October or early November). This is to prevent a ‘second wave’ of COVID-19 from breaking out.

The ministry has also introduced measures to prevent the disease. The minister also said the ministry did not ignore economic issues and the reopening of schools.

EDIT: This letter was published on KOHSANTEPHEAP and since been taken down. It is still up on KBN and POPULAR

If this is proved to be incorrect information, we will remove it.

    Dear Sir/Madam.
According to the publication on school resumption date. I am appealing to the ministry of youths and sports to reconsider two factors; this continual lockdown will lead to economic downturn in the education sector and retardness in studies despite the schools are trending in smart learning. Most people in education sector have been losing their jobs especially foreigners. As we speak now some have no hope because not all the schools are engaging foreign teachers on smart learning even the local teachers as well. But some garment factories are working with huge populace what apply to school I think it should be applicable to the factory. Now some people are stranded, how can the survive if the schools remain closed to November. I am begging the authority to see to that, and we should because no covid-19 cases recorded again.
May God bless Cambodia, the prime minister, and the ministers, and Cambodia people.
    Thanks.

I AM A FOREIGNER AND I HAVE MY BABY HERE. THE SCHOOL WHERE I AM CURRENTLY EMPLOYED, HAS NOT GIVEN ANY CASH ASSISTANCE, ESPECIALLY OUR VISAS AND DAY TO DAY CONSUMPTION. HONESTLY, I HAVE 100USD LEFT IN MY ATM, DO YOU THINK THIS AMOUNT CAN GO FURTHER UNTIL NOV 1. I DON’T THINK SO. WE ARE TOTALLY DISTRESSED NOW, OUR SCHOOL DOESN’T HAVE ANY ACTIONS REGARDING THE NOVEMBER 1 REOPENING OF SCHOOLS. WE ARE NOT LEFT HANGING. NOW, CAN YOU TELL ME TO ASK HELP?
