Nuon Chea Cremated

Pailin: At 7:00 pm on 09 August 2019, the body of Nuon Chea, the second in command of the Khmer Rouge regime, was cremated in a traditional Cambodian Buddhist ceremony.

Nuon Chea died at 6:00 pm on 4 August 2019 at the Khmer-Soviet Union Hospital at the age of 93, after being transferred from custody for hospitalization for a month. His body was taken from the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital for the funeral ceremony in Pailin on August 5, 2019.

In 2014, Nuon Chea, AKA Brother Number Two, received a life sentence for crimes against humanity, alongside another top-tier Khmer Rouge leader, Khieu Samphan, and a further trial convicted him of the crime of genocide in 2018. SOURCE
