Storm Warnings Across Cambodia

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on August 4, 2019 has issued a new notification on the weather situation in Cambodia from today until August 10. Low pressure effects of the three storms will bring heavy rainfall, especially in the coastal provinces, with parts of Koh Kong, Sihanoukville and National Road 4 expected to see flooding.

The current weather is the tail end of the season’s 7th typhoon.The eighth typhoon, Frances Phoe, was still far out in the ocean.


The typhoon had no major effect on the country, traveling towards the Korean Peninsula. In the coming days, another storm from the Philippines will affect Cambodia. Meanwhile, the effect of the southwest monsoon is strong on Cambodia, especially in the lower part of the country. 

The ministry said the effects of the storms would be:

1. The coastal provinces continue to experience heavy rainfall
2: Provinces: Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Takeo, Kandal, Mondulkiri and Phnom Penh are in moderate to severe rain.
3: Provinces: Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Thom, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Preah Vihear average rainfall. 
From August 4-8, the provinces: Pailin, Battambang, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey will experience low to moderate rainfall. From August 9 to 10, rainfall levels will increase to moderate.

At the same time, the Ministry of Water Resources has called on the public to pay attention and increase caution to:

* Effect of high wind speed
* Big waves with heights of 1-2 meters. 
* Special rainfall in the geographical area of ​​Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, and National Road 4.

*Yesterday there were also warnings that National Rd 4 might flood again.
