Arrested Over May Photoshop Murder

Phnom Penh:  On the afternoon of July 30, 2019, the suspect involved with a brutal murder in late May, 2019, was captured in Banteay Meanchey province.

The suspect was being transported to Phnom Penh for further action. The murder took place on the evening of May 27, 2019 at a photography shop along Monireth Street, Sangkat Toul Svay Prey II, Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

The victim was hit by a length of metal HSS, causing severe head trauma and died after being taken to Vietnam.

A senior police officer confirmed that the arrest was carried out by Khan Chamkar Morn police in cooperation with the Phnom Penh Municipal Criminal Office, the Police Department, the Criminal Division, and the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police.

The victim, Phun Salinin, 28, was in the shop when he was attacked from behind by Chhun Dim, 26.

Im Srey Keo, 24, the shop owner and victim’s brother-in-law, said the perpetrator had used the length of metal to beat the victim. He was rushed to Calmette Hospital, and later to Vietnam, but died of his wounds.

The suspect was reportedly jealous, as his wife worked in the shop with the victim and he suspected an affair was taking place. The wife was not working at the time of the attack.
