DNA Used To Crack Murder Case

Phnom Penh: On July 23, 2019, a Chinese man named Yang Yang was arrested by police on his return to Cambodia over his connection to the murder of a woman in Phnom Penh.

On June 29, 2019, the unidentified body and samples were found when burning on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Police officers from the Phnom Penh Department of Criminal Justice, Police Department, the Ministry of Interior, and the Child Protection Unit’s biometric technical officer were involved in the investigation and have done a good job by identifying the victim, as 25 year old Miao Xiaolin,

The Child Protection Unit examined the bodies of the victims and found that the victim was pregnant. The investigation became a rare opportunity for authorities to analyze DNA in order to identify victim by comparing DNA samples to family members.

Investigators tracked the vehicles used in the activity and examined security cameras until they identified the suspect, who was seen transporting the body down stairs in a suitcase.

Good work by the Ministry of Interior and the National Police in cooperation with the Chinese National Police has brought the arrest of the perpetrator, who confessed the crime and is to be convicted under the law.
