Fossil Discovery In Banteay Meanchey

Banteay Meanchey: Lim Vannhan, an archaeologist, along with with Heng Seiha, an animal researcher and Sieng Sothan, a physiologist have searching for fossils on mountains in Banteay Meanchey.

As a result, the team found many fossils of sea animals. Some of them are identifiable and some can not yet be identified, requiring further study, according to the Ministry of Environment on July 18, 2019.

The Ministry of the Environment explains that many specimens are crinoids up to 2.5 cm in diameter and have flowers. This species was found in Kang Kva, Phnom Bakheng, Phnom Svay Mountain in Banteay Meanchey province and are likely to be from the Paleozoic era.

Recently discoveries were made by the Heritage and Archaeological team of the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with Mondulkiri Environment Department, in Koh Neak district in Mondulkiri. It also found the presence of a wide variety of marine fossils. SOURCE
