Rosewood Logger Caught in Thailand

Oddar Mean Chey: In the commune of Osmach in Samraong district of Oddar Meanchey province, people continue to illegally log rosewood in Thai territory, causing many citizens to be captured by Thai authorities.

On the evening of June 5, 2019, Sok Teth, a 32-year-old man from Deum Deum Village, O’smach commune, Samraong district, was arrested by Thai authorities along with two pieces of rosewood and will be prosecuted in Thailand.

Sources revealed that cross-border luxury wood merchants from Thailand in O’Smach district were the main drivers of the trade. The source said that the merchants have powerful backers on the Cambodian side border.
