Svay Rieng: Between 13-17 May 2019, border guards and anti-narcotics units from both Cambodia and Vietnam conducted an operation to catch a cross-border drugs gang.
On May 18, 2019, a total of 8 suspect and 63.6 kg of drugs including heroin, methamphetamine and ketamine disguised in tea packets had been seized in the two countries.
A Cambodian group transported the drugs by car from Phnom Penh to the border in Svay Chrum district, Svay Rieng province. The Vietnamese connections were waiting across the border.
Six people were arrested in Cambodia and two more in Vietnam. The Vietnamese are asking for the extradition of at least some of the as yet unidentified suspects.
Another man, believed to be a major player in the drugs gang is still at large.
