Kratie: On the afternoon on 10 May 2019 an endangered freshwater dolphin was found dead in the Mekong River near Kratie City, Kratie Province. It was a female dolphin, over 2 meters long weighing 191 kilograms from a group living in Anlong Kampei.
The cause of death not yet clear, but there were no outward signs of injury.
Wildlife officials will investigate along with the WWf and the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for a clear cause of the dolphin’s death.
A dead baby dolphin was found in March in Stung Treng. A survey released in 2019 said there were 92 dolphins living in the Cambodian stretch of the Mekong.
