Protests Against Cintri Landfill

Phnom Penh:  On April 28, 2019, more than 50 people representing hundreds of villagers protested about the trash collecting company Cintri, which has been dumping rubbish in an open pit in Prey Rieng Village, Sangkat Phoum Chhor Trek, Khan Por Sen Chey, Phnom Penh.

They say the dumped trash is causing problems to their health and hygiene.

Citizens claim that the site is near the village, pagoda and school, and without restrictions, there will be a mountain of waste, flies and other insects.

Over the past four days, they were shocked to see the garbage collection company had been transporting garbage to the dump in the pit. Tens of tons of waste has caused a foul smell, affecting school children, monks and villagers in 8 surrounding villages.

They now ask Phnom Penh Governor to help them, and to clear rubbish into the pit. Mr. Hem Darith, governor of Posenchey District, agreed with the villagers and claimed that he did not allow the company to put garbage there, and he has contacted the company to stop the action immediately. http://www.arey-news.com/archives/302324
