Phnom Penh: On 22 April 2019, spokesman and secretary of state at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Chan Yuttha, warned that temperatures could reach up to 42 degrees Celsius this week.
Such temperatures might stay until the third week of May, so drink plenty of water!
Chan Yattha said that during high temperatures, thunderstorms and winds tend to be more and more severe. Farmers also may need to delay early rice planting.
The Ministry says that El Nino is behind the hot weather.
El NiƱo may delay the arrival of the rainy season, so early rice cultivation should begin in the third week of the rainy season.
