Vietnamese Woman Admits Australia Heroin Trafficking Attempt

Phnom Penh: A Vietnamese-Australian woman has been tried by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court over charges related to the transport of heroin from Cambodia to Australia.

Tran Ve Tay, 38, was arrested in Cambodia on January 6, 2018 at the Phnom Penh International Airport, with 1750 grams of heroin hidden in her suitcase.

On January 10, 2018, a Cambodian court issued a warrant for the detention of the accused to the date of the conviction.

In the trial, she admitted that borrowed money she couldn’t afford to pay, and was offered a large sum to take the drugs to Australia. If she refused, she claimed that her children would be in danger.

Without choice, she came to Cambodia and two Vietnamese men brought the luggage for her at the “Dai Pagoda Hotel”. On January 6, 2018, she left for Australia and was arrested by the police.

The verdict is scheduled to be announced on April 25, 2019 at 9 am.
