Kampong Speu Fake Sugar Factory Closed

Kampong Speu: Anti- Economic Crimes Unit, police force, Camcontrol Branch, the Department of Industry and Handicraft and Deputy Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance visited a palm sugar factory on Road 4 in Trapeang Kraloeng, Somrongtong District.

The owner, named as Rothida, 57, was charged with illegal manufacturing of fake palm sugar.

instead of taking the fruit, famous in Kampong Speu province to produce the artisan sweetener, the factory was using standard sugar and sugar cane, passing it off as palm sugar in somewhat unsanitary conditions.

Camcontrol ordered the facility to close and are awaiting for test results and decision from the top before proceeding. https://postnews.com.kh/local/425479
