Dodgy Lease Sees Foreign Run Restaurant Closed in Siem Reap

Siem Reap: On the 14th of March, 2018, a provincial coalition, headed by Im Sophorn, director of the cross-sectoral branch of the Siem Reap provincial court, filed the provincial administration’s order to suspend business activities for restaurant Silver Fern, located in Stung Thmey Village, Svay Dangkum Commune, Siem Reap City.

It appears that the owner of the building, Mr. Mam Chan, rented his property to someone by name of Pho Phannin for $ 800 per month. It seems that tenant them sub-letted the building for $1000 a month to another foreigner, who claims to have paid $1000 a month direct to Mr Pho, who now cannot be found.

Despite negotiations between the landlord and sub-letter, an agreement couldn’t be reached, and the property owner requested the business was closed until the original lease signer was found.

The provincial administration confirmed that after the settlement has been completed, and if the business wishes to reopen, they to ask for permission from the authorities in advance.
