Japanese Donated Patrol Boats Catch First Smugglers

Kep: Boats donated to Cambodian Customs and Excise by the Japanese government in Kep Province have captured 1,129 cartons of illegal gigarettes on 25 February 2019, according to a press release.

This is the first time that the Customs Department has been able to crack down on this crime, after receiving two patrol boats, which were provided by the Japanese government, to the Royal Government of Cambodia under the development program on January 25, 2019.

The two maritime patrol vessels are hoped to contribute significantly to strengthening the effectiveness in the prevention of smuggling and suppression of tax evasion around the coastal areas of Cambodia, and also contribute to strengthening the Cambodian maritime security.
