Timber Yard Raided in Kampong Chhnang

Kampong Chhnang: Provincial Forestry Officials of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Kampong Chhnang Province, on November 13, 2018, together with local forces, closed down an illegal wood processing yard.

The yard was used to strip and cut illegal lumber in Trapeang Krav village, Prey Bor district.

The owner of the illegal site, “Pann”, has allegedly been involved in illegal logging for many years, but has never been visited by officials. Skeptics are suspected of colluding with those in positions of authority, who remain unpunished.

The seized evidence and tools will be taken to the provincial agriculture department in preparation for legal action. 

Chief of Forestry Administration, Thong Viravuthy, could not tell reporters details on the amount of confiscated timber. He said that he “was sick and busy at the office, and will tell later”.
