Chinese Woman Sentenced Over TTP Road Death

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) – A Phnom Penh Municipal Court judge, sentenced 26-year-old YUAN TANG (Thang Yien) to two years in prison (suspended), and a fine of 4 million Riels.

The court also ordered the compensation to families of the victims of $14,000. The decision was made after the panel opened in the evening of October 31, 2018 in front of the defendant Thang Yien.

On August 16, 2018, the Inquiry Commission of the Phnom Penh Court of First Instance, Theam Chand Piseth, issued a verdict to detain the Chinese woman after a crash caused death and injuries. She was sent to PJ Prison. 

During the prosecution case, the Chinese woman was sued by Ms. Va Sakada, deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court prosecuting three charges, including: Intentional violence with aggravating circumstances, deliberate violence,  under Articles 218 and Article 224 of the Penal Code and driving without proper driving license under Article 75 of the Law on Road Traffic.

The incident happened on 123rd Street, Street 456 (front of House 54), Group 22, Village 4, Sangkat Toul Tum Poung I, on August 16, 2018.

The victims were accused of stealing the woman’s phone, when she ran them down on their Honda Scoopy in her car.
