Angkorian Waterways May Flow Once More
Banteay Meanchey: The Working Group of the Association for Peace and Development Province is set to cooperate with local authorities and water resource experts will repair some ancient irrigation systems to bring water back into the Banteay Chhmar Temple area.
Historians believe the lake was built in late 12th century, and 10,000 people were involved in the construction. A complex network of waterways, canals and ditches were used to keep the lake and other reservoirs in the area filled up, which have long since fallen into disrepair.
Plans to rebuild this system are underway, in the name of cultural preservation and historical interest.
