Dredgers Damned for Dock Destruction

Tbong Khmom: A private dock used to ferry goods across the river has completely collapsed, along with the bank.

On October 14, large boats arrived and began to extract sand from near the shore. By the afternoon of October 15, the river bank collapsed, along with the structure.

A resident said that he lived in Doun Mao village since 1989, and had never heard of such a collapse until recently. Since few years ago, however, about 150m of land has gradually fallen into the river. Sand dredging boats have been blamed by the local people.

After appeals to the authorities, representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy said that residents should report any dredging activity along the river as there are no companies licensed to take sand from that area.
