Japan’s Soft Diplomacy Continues With $35m Bridge Grant

The Government of Japan has announced a grant of 3942 million yen (US $ 35 million) to build seven bridges, with five bridges being built on National Road 73 in Kratie and two bridges On National Highway 11 in Prey Veng, to help Cambodians have easy access to and transport of agricultural commodities. .

On October 3, 2018, at 10:00 am, HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, HE Mr. Prak Sokhonn, and His Excellency HORINOUCHI Hidehisa, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, The Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia will sign a letter of exchange and a record of  the Grant with a total of 35 million US dollars for emergency bridge projects in areas affected by flooding.

Notably, since April 2017, Cambodia has received official development assistance of approximately US $ 249 million, including US $ 40 million in grant aid and flood protection, improvement of drainage systems in Phnom Penh and concessional loans of about 209 million US dollars Study for the development of a new container terminal in Sihanoukville.
