Stats on Rainy Season So Far

Keo Vy, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management, said that from the end of July until September 6, flooding of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers affected nine provinces:

Stung Treng, Kratie, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Cham, Kandal, Prey Veng, Takeo, Kampong Chhnang and Phnom Penh.

A total of 258 communes suffered, with 9,463 people evacuated and 37 dead (Kompong Cham 16, Prey Veng 13, Stung Treng 4, Kratie 3 and Tbong Khmum 1) and 83 injured.

More than 70 people in Kampong Cham were hospitalized due to snake bites and mosquito borne illnesses.

Keo Vy said the floods also destroyed 191 houses on the river banks, affected 289 schools,123 pagodas, 22 health centers

Many cattle were evacuated, with 29 reported dead.

45,071 hectares of rice paddy, and 25,261 hectares of other farmland were damaged.

The waters also flooded 1,266 kilometers of rural roads.
